Swarm of Metal Climbing Robots

Project type

Research

Date

6/11/2024

Location

Boston

We have built a heterogenous swarm of metal climbing robots that serve as a test bed for us to explore different collective behavior algorithms that can be applied for inspection. The swarm consists of 15 Rovables: mini 3-cm wide robots that are capable of traversing metallic structures from any direction. We have also created a newer, larger metal climbing robot that is powered by the NVIDIA Jetson Nano. We have used the Rovable swarm to test our collective-localization algorithms. The Jetson-Nano powered robot is currently being used to generate SLAM-based maps of 3D manifolds.
